The McGuire techniques are about attacking and reducing the fear of stuttering. When building the foundation of our speech this can be seen as slow and mechanical as we face up to the words and sounds we have had problems saying.
However, the goal is not exaggerated technique and slow speech. It’s all about speaking eloquently and being the best speaker we can be.
Letting go and having fun speaking is a huge part of what the McGuire Programme is all about. On the Saturday of the course, we run workshops where people learn to enjoy their voices. This is called the Harrison Workshop and on the Watford course recently coach Amy Riddett ran a great 2-plus hour session where some of the new students, had fun speaking for the first time ever.
