Face your fear of stuttering & change your life forever!
Face your fear of stuttering & change your life forever!
We celebrated our first year anniversary of the McGuire Programme in Germany with a return visit to Düsseldorf where we held our first course in 2015. Graduates (aka members) came from wide and far to work on their speech, defeat their stutters and to make their McGuire speaking techniques stronger and to help the new students get Good at the Sport of Speaking.
It was a real pleasure meeting so many members of the programme coming to Germany from other Regions of the McGuire Programme. Members came from the Scandinavian Region, the Mexican Region, the UK Region and The Dutch Region. I met you all in person for the very first time and it was like meeting up with good old friends. We all have a common connection and we all play a part in the McGuire community. It doesn’t get any better than that sense of community and all working together to take control of our stutters.
We had a new student who was under 18 years of age and he was accompanied on the course by his mother. His mother witnessed a huge transformation in her son (btw: he was only 15 years of age) and I wanted to share some comments from his mother and what she experienced first-hand during the course in Düsseldorf.
“My steps are lighter after the course”, this is what my son told me on our way back home.
During the intensive course I looked at my son from a completely different prospective. He is much stronger than I used to think he was. He likes to meet new people and is so eager to talk about everything to them, even in the past it didn’t seem so.
I knew that stuttering was the source of stress in his life, but I’ve never thought how big is this problem until I took part in the course.
It was very useful to spend time in the training room, practicing the techniques together with the group. It made me understand the efforts you need to put to get the new habit of fluent speaking.
The change is vast after these three days. I saw him (my son) becoming more open and confident. Teenagers learn fast if they want to and they can when they are in a supportive and positive environment.
It is also important that The McGuire Program has the support community. The training on the first course is just the start.
There are many coaches around the world who support my son on his journey to fluent speaking. They know exactly what it takes to overcome stuttering, and can give him (my son) a hand whenever it’s needed.
The one constant thing in our life is change. We cannot avoid it and the more we resist change the tougher our life becomes. Trust me, I know this because I was very skilled at deflecting change in my life.
Change can come into our lives as a result of a crisis, as a result of choice or by chance. In either situation we are all faced with having to make a choice – do we make the change or not? I believe it is always better to make changes in your life when you choose to rather than being forced to. And the same applies to anyone contemplating joining the McGuire Programme - you need to want to change - It is our power of choice that enables us to activate positive change in our lives.
Ask yourself: What is it that I want to achieve in my life? What are my dreams? What makes me happy? Your meaning in life gives you purpose and sets the direction of how you want to live your life. Without meaning you will spend the rest of your life wandering through life aimlessly with no direction, focus, or purpose. On the McGuire Programme we have direction, we have focus, we have purpose and we help each other to stay motivated in achieving our life's ambitions, changing our perceptions, altering our behaviours. And ultimately becoming stronger, more confident people who live life to the fullest.
On our courses, we get new students joining us who have stuttered badly up until the point when they start using and applying the newly learnt techniques. Here is an account from our course administrator Daniela O’Connell, BTW: Daniela is not a person who stutters but she is extremely supportive in everything we do to change the life’s of people who stutter. This is Daniela’s experience of what happens when a new student speaks for the every first time using the McGuire technique.
“I’m always amazed by the surprised looks on the new students’ faces when they say their first words using the new technique. They speak, probably for the first time, without any struggle with relaxed faces and oh so happy eyes.”
It’s easy to ignore our fears and hope that they will go away. Unfortunately, it does not work like that. If you want to change your life, learn to master your fears so they can’t control you any longer. Our fears are only thoughts in our minds that are not real but over time we have become to believe that they are true. It is our fears in life that stop us from living our life to the fullest. We know when our fears are controlling our lives because we feel discontent, dissatisfied and unfulfilled.
Once we face our fears we take back our power to choose how we want to live our lives and when we do this we change our lives forever. We can help you to face your fear of stuttering.
Do you want to make that change? Face your fears with us! Don’t hesitate, get in touch today. It’s never too late to make that change.
