Scott Thompson, the Course Organiser for the McGuire Programme course in Stirling, Scotland, kicks off the Public Speaking Challenge at the bottom of King Street, Stirling at 3pm on Saturday 13th October 2018.

The McGuire Programme UK North Region held a four day, residential, intensive, stutter course at the Stirling Highland Hotel, Stirling, Scotland, from Wednesday 10th October until Sunday 14th October 2018.  We had 12 new students who attended the course to start their journey from stammering out of control to achieving control and being able to speak articulately and eloquently on the Sunday afternoon.  Over the four days, more than seventy graduates of the Programme also attended the course to work on their own speech, or to help the new students at the start of their journeys.

The course was instructed by Terry Cardwell and Lisa Nealan.  Terry first instructed a McGuire Programme course in Luton in 2002, a mere sixteen years ago!  This really sums up the sustainability of the techniques and methods that the McGuire Programme teach on the courses!  For Lisa Nealan, the Stirling course was her first opportunity to instruct a McGuire programme course.  Lisa's first course was in Newcastle upon Tyne in 2015, just over three years ago!  Both really gelled together and inspired everybody involved to achieve great things.

As usual, the Stirling course was inspiring, motivational, emotional and tremendously positive for all concerned.  This was our first time back in Scotland since 2016 and it was great to see some old faces not seen for a few years and also some of the established stalwarts of the Programme, who come back again and again.  As always, some of the new students showed a wide range of stuttering behaviours on the Wednesday evening.  Some were very mild and displayed covert behaviours to try and hide their stammers.  Others were quite severe and were unable to hide their speech difficulties.  All prospered and did superbly well by the end of the course.

The next McGuire Programme UK North course will be in the Royal Station Hotel, Newcastle upon Tyne, 6th-10th March 2019.  If anyone wishes to attend to start their journey to articulate eloquence, please get in touch, or simply complete and submit the online application to attend a course.  See you there!
