L-R: Geoff Johnston (Retiring RD), Scott Monson (Incoming RD), Mark Irwin (ASEA President)

Over 60 graduates of the Australian Programme attended the recent course in Melbourne to pay tribute to a national icon. Geoff Johnston joined the programme in 1999, and took on the role of Regional Director in 2001. After 13 years and 70+ courses in the position, he was touched that so many graduates travelled across the country to thank him in person for the inspiration, motivation and dedication he has shown in helping so many on their road to freedom.

We were very fortunate to have Dave McGuire visit us for his biennial trip down under. Dave stayed with us for Wednesday night and all day Thursday before he left Friday morning for New Zealand.

My best friend saw something about the McGuire Programme on TV and suggested I try it out. Initially, I was skeptical, but made the necessary inquiries and attended my first course. That was the best decision that I ever made. My skepticism changed quickly, primarily because of the pragmatic approach and the simplicity of tools and techniques employed. There are no claims of ‘magic cures’ and the instructors themselves displayed the efficacy of the tools by the instructors and the coaches and past graduates.

McGuire Programme (Aust) - Melbourne Course - March 2014

Wednesday 5th March saw 15 out of control stutterers arrive at the Victoria Hotel, Melbourne – some had been circling this date in the diary for months, others had literally found out about the course a few days earlier; nevertheless, they all came to find out about The McGuire Programme and how we can help them to overcome a major speaking challenge in their life, their stutter.

I do remember though about holding back & avoiding right from an early age. I have always had lots of good friends throughout my school years & working life, & my family has always shown great patience with regard to my stutter.

I have tried just about everything over the years to help my fluency. Speech therapy, elocution, relaxation classes, hypnotherapy, yoga, medication & self improvement courses. All without any or lasting success. Deep down inside however, I did feel it was possible to at least make some worthwhile progress with my speech.
