South Africa does it again!
South African staff presented their last McGuire course for 2017 and it was awesome!
The final South African McGuire Four Day Course for 2017 was held at Ekudeni Lodge in Muldersdrift near Johannesburg. Most of the grads and new students were from Northern South Africa, although a few came from neighbouring countries and the Cape regions.
A total of five new students enrolled for the course. With the help of experienced grads who had attended previous courses, students were taught the breathing basics and the proper cycle of speech. By the end of the first day, all new students were able to say their names, addresses and phone numbers with good technique. Repetition is key to enable reinforcement of important concepts, providing a good physical foundation for the rest of the course. During the course, we also focus on the psychological aspects of stuttering and for some this is more difficult than the physical obstacles they come up against when stuttering.
During the course, we give all the new students opportunities to try out their new technique in the real world. All the students attacked the public speaking challenge with vigour. The exhiliration and adrenaline rus they experience during this session is pulpable and provided the new students with even more confidence than ever before. Once again, new students were added to the SA McGuire Family and many good friendships formed. It's amazing to see how we grow each year. Long may it live!
