Cardiff course - 15th Consecutive year
The McGuire Programme stuttering therapy course in Cardiff, 12th-16th February 2014, was the fifteenth consecutive course to be held in the Welsh capital since the first course was held there in 2000.
On Wednesday 12th February 2014 the McGuire Programme returned to Cardiff for its fifteenth consecutive course in the city. The four day, residential, intensive stuttering therapy course was held in the Wynford Hotel and ran until the Sunday afternoon on 16th February 2014.
For Alex Todd, of Gorebridge, just outside of Edinburgh, it was his opportunity to instruct a McGuire Programme course for the first time. Only four years earlier, in February 2010, Alex completed his first McGuire Programme course in Wigan, Greater Manchester. The transformation from a person who stammered severely in Wigan in 2010 to the control, eloquent and articulate speech on display in Cardiff this year was testament to the effectiveness of the McGuire Programme and to the hard work, determination and drive Alex had put into his journey to overcome his stutter.
Everyone involved in the McGuire Programme has stammered themselves. Alex Todd is just one example amongst thousands of people who have learned to control their stammer and then used their new found freedom of speech to inspire, motivate and help other people who stammer to do the same.
In Cardiff, Alex Todd was helped and guided in his instructor role by Alan Jones. Alan is an experienced instructor on the McGuire Programme and lives and works in Cardiff. Alan's first course was in 2005 in Swindon.
The new students in Cardiff this year, as happens on all McGuire Programme courses, were inspired by the instructing team and could plainly see that they too could learn to speak as well as their instructors.
The McGuire Programme hopes to return to Cardiff for a sixteenth course in 2015.
