Schoolboy who wants to disappear sometimes because of his stammer
● James has had a stammer since he could talk and was also born with a an undiagnosed cleft palate (wide cleft of the soft palate). James had surgery at 11 months old to repair his cleft. Health visitors thought he would outgrow his stammer but this didn’t happen.
● Mum Alison believes that James is now at a very tender age and says that becoming a teenager is difficult in this day and age where image is everything; she is worried that for James it will be even harder. Alison would like to give James some good solid coping strategies to overcome his stammer. James has moderate hearing loss and wears a hearing aid in his left ear.
● Despite his stammer, James is a confident child who loves to perform, his passion in life is dancing. He currently does Ballet, Tap, Modern, stretch and musical theatre classes. James said he would love to do more singing and acting but having his stammer puts him off.
● James would like people to look past his stammer and see that he’s a normal boy.
