In 2020 we were hit by the Covid 19 crisis that forced us to cancel most of our in-person/face-to-face courses for people who stutter or stammer. The silver cloud in this is that we took advantage of ZOOM and our online support network exploded offering thousands of online stuttering and stammering support meetings, workshops, morning warm ups, refresher days, refresher weekends and quizzes to name but a few. By using ZOOM in conjunction with our Beyond Stuttering members only platform, it meant members from all over the world could attend other regional support events online. The success of using ZOOM for our support network led a few of our members Hannah Detema and Greg Goldman together with UK Regional Director Matt Wilton, to put together our first online course that we successfully held in December 2020.
Of the 71 stutterers who joined our programme in 2020, 56 (or 79%) were rated ‘successful’ by our Evaluation Auditors using the most accurate of our rating calculation based on including non-contactables (NCs) as not successful. To be noted is that the 2020 members were assessed by the Evaluation Auditors close to 2 years after their first course, which shows an encouraging ‘longer than usual’ significant improvement.
One of the most distinguishing factors of our programme is the on-going support available and of those who took advantage of our support network 98% were evaluated successful in 2020.
