What an incredible time everyone had in Manchester for the final course of 2025.

Another six new students joined the McGuire Programme, each showing immense courage and bravery. This group included people with both overt and covert stutters, representing a wide range of ages.

Alex Parsons led his first-ever course as an instructor, supported by the experienced Greig Goldman and expertly organised by Charlotte Simpson.

The McGuire Programme’s lifetime membership truly shone through, with several graduates returning after many years away.

There is something uniquely powerful about a group of people who share the same challenge coming together with one purpose: to work on their speech. Regardless of age, background, or gender, this programme offers something valuable to everyone.

We were also fortunate to have so many coaches return to support the new students. Graduates and coaches form the backbone of the programme and are essential to the success of every newcomer.

Watching the six new students leave with greater control over their speech (and a remarkable boost in confidence)was a clear sign of the course’s success.

Their next step is to make full use of the programme’s lifetime support network, continuing to grow, build positive habits, and replace old negative thoughts with a new belief – even if they stutter, they can still become outstanding speakers.

It was especially heartwarming to see 12-year-old Jack Coyne receive the Bill Bottle Trophy for his dedication and commitment since joining the programme in the summer. He has set an inspiring example for the adults. This trophy honours the late Martin Coombs, a remarkable leader who overcame his own stammer, became a coach, course instructor, and staff trainer, and served as an exceptional role model. Martin truly embodied what it means to strive to be the best speaker you can be.
