The McGuire Programme Kicks Off the Year in Style in Belfast!
The McGuire Programme started 2025 with a bang, hosting its first course of the year in the heart of Belfast. This wasn’t just any course—it marked our debut at the prestigious Europa Hotel, a fitting venue for a weekend filled with personal growth, determination, and achievement.
But that’s not all. This course was extra special for another reason. For the first time in her role as Regional Director, Sharon Gavillet oversaw the recording of the event by a television production company. The footage will be used to create a short documentary set to premiere later this year, shining a spotlight on the transformative power of the McGuire Programme. While the Irish Region has been featured in documentaries before, this marks Sharon’s first televised course—a thrilling development that will bring greater awareness to our mission and the incredible courage of our members.
A Milestone Moment for Sharon Gavillet
This course was also a milestone for Sharon Gavillet, as it was her second time leading a course in her role as Regional Director for the Irish Region. Her passion, leadership, and dedication set the tone for a dynamic and successful weekend. Sharon’s vision and commitment to helping people who stutter find their voice made this event one to remember.
Courage in the Spotlight
Being part of a documentary is no small feat, especially when it involves sharing something as personal as one’s journey with stuttering. It takes tremendous courage to step in front of the camera, exposing what society often perceives as a ‘vulnerability’ to a global audience. Our members’ willingness to share their stories is a testament to the bravery that defines the McGuire Programme.
In many ways, this act of openness is a reflection of the Programme’s core values: embracing challenges, breaking down barriers, and transforming fear into strength. We are immensely proud of everyone who participated in the filming. By sharing their journeys, they not only empower themselves but also inspire countless others who may be struggling in silence.
Looking Ahead
This documentary has the potential to reach a wide audience, educating people about the reality of living with a stutter and highlighting the tools and support available through the McGuire Programme. It’s an exciting step forward for the Irish Region and the Programme as a whole, demonstrating our commitment to raising awareness and promoting understanding.
As we continue through 2025, let this course in Belfast serve as a reminder of the incredible resilience and determination of our members. Whether it’s taking the stage for the first time or stepping in front of a camera, every step forward is a victory. Together, we are not just changing speech—we’re changing lives.
Stay tuned for updates on the documentary and more exciting developments as the year unfolds. Here’s to a year of courage, growth, and transformation!
