We all have something to tell, maybe some stories are more difficult to reveal because of the fear or shame to what people will say because we live in a society where if we show ourselves as such, they criticize us for who we are.
When starting a conversation with a stranger, there is a very high probability that they will be receptive to you. We are by nature, social creatures, and as such, we generally welcome interactions with others. But for people who stutter this can be a fearful scenario and we wouldn’t dare interact for fear of rejection or simply not being understood. But now with the control taught by the programme, it’s made easier and starts to become fun.
An estimated 1pc of the population lives with a stammer, and Christie Toney is among them. But, like US presidential candidate Joe Biden, she has learnt to cope with the condition. Gabrielle Monaghan reports
WHEN Emily Blunt revealed her school-days torment caused by her stutter, it brought memories flooding back for Rachel Black. Like the Mary Poppins Returns star, she also had a stammer that made life hell. She had to turn her back on going to university, shut herself away to avoid embarrassment and couldn’t even order a coffee.
Thanks to our hard-working team of volunteers – coaches and instructors, we were able to host four intensive courses in our region, three – online, one – face to face in Sydney, NSW.
